Plastic Bag Drying Rack

A few years ago I was wondering how to effectively dry the plastic bags we were washing and reusing as a household. they were just sitting in the dish-rack and not drying well. so I took a few pieces of scrap wood and made a rack. Long thin upright spikes work well for hanging the bags on they help the bags drain and get air into the corners better than using clothespins and a clothesline. The uprights are glued and tacked to a crossbar which holds them slightly away from the surface mounted to. and the whole rack can be mounted on the inside of a cupboard to keep the messy look of the drying bags out of sight.

Introducing some Eco Hacks!

Hi I wanted to share a few ideas I've had for little eco life hacks. I was realizing recently that while I have lots of desire to save the world it is often the little systems things which get in the way of actually being available to act on my passions effectively!

recent movies, memories and plans for travel

Hi all,

I saw two movies recently, in retrospect I see some similarities between them even though they are so different in content. the first was Once, which I highly recommend. a very moving musical story of friendship taking place in Dublin. the other was Dreaming Lhasa, a story of Tibetan refugees in northern India. also a very interesting film if not as emotionally engaging for me. 
I was struck by how each film seemed like a glimpse into the private lives of the characters, and even though each film was fictional they had the feeling of being very real, intimate, personal. It was a very nice feeling, not polished but somehow real.  I wonder if there is some new consciousness blossoming in film-making which makes it easier to portray a kind of authenticity. or perhaps nothing so grand. it made for a great couple of evenings. 

Another note for me personally with these movies was the locations. When I was 19 I traveled to Ireland and Scotland for a month. I met my first love in Donegal, and traveled with her back to Dublin, I remember sitting outside her flat on steps very much like the building where the girl in the movie lives. It was a strange feeling 20 some years later remembering lost details of my few days in Dublin. It was a very emotional and confusing time for that younger, inexperienced me. Dreaming Lhasa takes place primarily in McLeod Ganj, home in exile for the Dali Lama. I spent some time there in '93 and '94 in my travels to India and Nepal. I could recall hiking up into the hills above the town, and other jaunts, evoked by the movie. 

It was especially fun to get these recollections of travel jogged as Cécile and I begin to prepare to travel this winter, something we haven't done much lately. We hope to make a little circuit something like: London, Devon, Cornwall, stonehenge and avebury, then ferry to Netherlands, Amsterdam, Visit a friend from India in Laer Germany, then visit Friends near Paris. as if that wasn't enough then to Dominican Republic for sun and kitesurfing, before returning to Michigan.
